Automatic Vehicle Location
The on-line maps available on this site show the position and other
information for each report sent via satellite from the Star-Traxx™ unit.
This "Automatic Vehicle Location" works using a network of geo-stationary
satellites strategically placed to provide world wide coverage. No longer
are you limited to cellular coverage areas in the continental United States,
this works anywhere that you have a view of the sky over the equator. The
coverage is much like XM Radio(tm) in the United States. It won't work
while in a tunnel or if the sky over the equator is blocked for any
reason.
Star-Traxx™ is a very flexible and cost effective system. You have a
choice of several different "scripts" that the unit will use to determine
when and what kind of report is sent to the host. The scripts can be
downloaded to the Star-Traxx™ unit via the satellite or can be downloaded to
your computer and using the optional programming cable transferred to the
Star-Traxx™ unit.
We have designed the Star-Traxx™ system to work for you. As the account
holder for Star-Traxx™ you can determine who has access to the on-line system
and what kind of information they can see. You can also join communities
where others may share the same interests and information within the
community.
Mobile Mapping with Star-Traxx™
Star-Traxx™ has a RS232 output that can be configured as a standard
NMEA-188 output. What does that mean? Well, it means that you can hook it
up to a laptop or a PDA and use standard mapping programs for a moving map
display. We have tested the Star-Traxx™ with Microsoft Streets and Trips and
Delorme Street Atlas USA for the PC. On the PDA we have found that
Mapopolis works very well on the Palm OS as does the Delorme 2004 handheld
version. Most programs that support the NMEA-188 standard should have no
problem with the Star-Traxx™ unit.
Remember this requires a cable at additional cost.
